FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique said his team could afford to lose three points after they were defeated 0-1 by Real Sociedad in La Liga match at the Anoeta Stadium.
Barcelona enjoyed a nine point lead over second-placed Atletico Madrid but two consecutive defeats against Real Madrid (1-2) and now against Real Sociedad have cut the lead to three points. Barcelona have 76 points after 32 matches, three more than Atletico. Third-placed Real Madrid have 72 points.
Pique made the statement after the mnatch here on Saturday in reference to the large lead Barcelona has over Atletico Madrid in the La Liga standings, reports Efe.
Pique explained however that after the game against Real Sociedad and from now on, Barcelona cannot give up more points.
The 29-year-old blamed some bad luck at the beginning of the match for the defeat, referring to the goal that was netted at the fifth minute.
Pique pointed out that Real Sociedad has played a great game, praising goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.
