In a bid to promote sports and to engage the youthd of Jammu and Kashmir constructively, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced a special package of Rs.200 crore for the politically volatile state.
The financial package includes the construction of indoor sporting halls in all districts of the state, according to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release.
Additionally, two stadia will be upgraded to international standards while the current stadia at Poonch, Rajouri and Udhampur will be enhanced.
In addition, water sport facilities will also be provided at an estimated cost of Rs.6 crore.
"For immediate engagement of youth in the state in sporting activities, a special programme 'Sports for AII' is being implemented for village level competitions and development of sports like football etc," the release added.
"An amount of Rs 5 crore has already been provided to J&K State Sports Council for organising these village level sporting activities."
