The Congress on Wednesday hit out at the Modi government, saying that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior ministers were in election mode and sleep mode, the country's security was under attack and soldiers were being killed.

"In the last 30 months, 188 security personnel have laid down their lives for India and 82 civilians also lost their lives. These lives were lost in various terror attacks perpetrated on India," said Congress Spokesperson Ajoy Kumar.

"There has been 200 per cent increase in infiltrations. It is for the people to decide if the Modi government has made India more secure or less," he added.

Kumar said that in 2016, 105 jawans were killed and 10 terror attacks took place.

"Attacks have continued and our Prime Minister and Home Minister (Rajnath Singh) are in election mode and our Defence Minister (Manohar Parrikar) in sleep mode," said Kumar.

He further said: "If a government can't safeguard its own Home Ministry's website, then how can it safeguard the nation?

"The unfortunate part of this government is that it continues to use national defence for political purposes only. They have been exposed by the number of jawans and civilians killed."

Kumar also hit out at the Modi government for its repeated failure in isolating Hafiz Sayeed and Azhar Masood.

"Their repeated failure is a result of the Prime Minister's one-upmanship, who is not interested in consultations and discussions," Kumar said.
