Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi Monday said he was for "respecting the process" in choosing the prime ministerial nominee and that it will be done by the elected members after the Lok Sabha polls.

In an interview to Times Now channel, Gandhi said the parliamentarians choose the prime minister and he outlined this in his speech at the All India Congress Committee meeting here Jan 17.

"The system chooses MPs, MPs choose prime minister," Gandhi said.

He said he was prepared to take any responsibility given by the party.

Told that party MPs would obviously choose him as the prime ministerial candidate, Gandhi said: "That's up to them."

"Democracy is about respect to the process," Gandhi said.
