Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new building of the Chandigarh international airport on September 11, officials said here on Monday.
The airport building, which is located in Mohali town on Punjab, adjoining Chandigarh, will however handle only domestic flights even after the inauguration as the necessary clearances for operating international flights has still not been given by central government ministries.
The Chandigarh airport, being a defence airport and under the control of the Indian Air Force (IAF), has a domestic terminal on Chandigarh side at present.
Modi will also inaugurate a housing complex in Sector 63 on the same day and hand over the possession letters and house keys to some of the beneficiaries, a Chandigarh Administration spokesman said here on Monday.
The prime minister will also attend the convocation of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here on the same day.
