PNB fraud: Kejriwal says Congress, BJP 'equally corrupt'

Stressing that people voted for the BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as they wanted a change from the Congress, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday accused the BJP of "rather taking forward the scams" initiated during the previous regime.

"A man duping a bank of Rs 11,000 crore flees the country. It is not a coincidence. Many agencies are surely involved in this," Kejriwal told the media here.

"It can't be possible without getting a green flag from the top. People on top (positions) in the central government are involved," he said while referring to the Punjab National Bank that was defrauded of $1.8 billion by designer jeweller Nirav Modi.

Kejriwal said people were now worried about their money deposited in public sector banks.

"They come and ask me about their money's security. The Centre should answer why Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya have not been arrested till now," the Aam Aadmi Party leader added.

"The BJP is saying the scam started in 2011. The Congress is saying it came up later... scams that started during the Congress rule are still on."

The Chief Minister said: "Earlier, the Congress was embezzling (public) money. Now, the BJP is doing the same. People voted for the BJP for a change but no Congressman (involved in scams) has been jailed since it came to power because both parties are equally corrupt."
