The Delhi government has decided to install point of sale devices in all the ration stores by March 31 next year, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday.

Kejriwal added that contract for this will be awarded within the next two months.

Point of sale devices are intended to fully computerise the public distribution system to make it more transparent.

"In a meeting held yesterday (Friday) with Food Department, Planning Department, IT Department and others, we set the target of March 31 next year for installation and stabilisation of these point of sale devices," Kejriwal said at a press conference here.

He added that these devices will be linked to Adhaar cards and biometric verification will be needed for subsidised ration to be given to the consumers.

"This will lead to cancellation of many fake ration cards and will put an end to leakages and theft of ration in the public distribution system," Kejriwal said.
