Police on Wednesday continued to probe the sensational train heist when robbers cut through the roof of a train car in Tamil Nadu and fled with cash chests belonging to the RBI.
The police started their investigation from the Erode railway yard where the Salem Express began its journey and also at all stations where it stopped before reaching Chennai.
The audacious robbery, which happened on Monday night or Tuesday morning, came to light when the Salem Express reached Chennai from Salem.
The Reserve Bank of India had reportedly loaded 228 trunks with currency, estimated at around Rs 340 crore. Some officials said they were all soiled notes. A sum of around Rs 5.75 crore is said to be missing.
According to the railway police, the porters who loaded the cash in the train were questioned and so were the bank staff to determine who all may have information about the cash chests.
