A constable who opened fire from a stolen AK-47 on a top executive of a pharma company here Wednesday has been arrested, police said.

Obulesh, a constable of Armed Reserve (AR), was arrested by the police on the border between Kurnool and Anantapur districts Wednesday night from a Bangalore-bound bus.

Three others were also arrested in the sensational case.

They are being brought to Hyderabad and are likely to be produced before media in the afternoon or evening, police sources said.

The constable, who was serving at Central Police Lines (CPL) Amberpet here, was earlier attached with Greyhounds, the elite anti-Maoist force and was allegedly involved in stealing AK-47.

The constable tried to kidnap K Nityananda Reddy, vice-chairman of Aurobindo Pharma, when the latter returned to his car after the morning walk at KBR Park. However, the executive and his brother resisted his attempts.

In the scuffle, he fired about 10 rounds and fled leaving behind the firearm and a bag. No one was hurt in the incident, which sent panic among VIPs who throng the park.

Police took the case seriously as AK-47 missing from Greyhounds late last year was used.

Working on the clues and based on the statements of Nityananda Reddy and his brother, investigators prepared a sketch of the accused of the accused and released it Wednesday evening.

The police also announced reward to anyone providing information leading to his arrest.

Later, the police identified the accused as Obulesh and after tracking his mobile phone signals arrested him.
