In a sensational incident, an assistant sub inspector shot at a senior inspector and the latter's orderly before committing suicide inside a police station here on Saturday evening, officials said.

The incident took place at the Vakola police station in Santacruz area.

ASI Dilip Shirke reportedly had a heated argument with station house officer, Senior Police Inspector Vilas Joshi, after he (Shirke) was pulled up for absenteeism.

In a fit of rage, Shirke fired at least one round in Joshi's abdomen and also injured an orderly nearby before shooting himself.

Joshi and the orderly, who received an injury on his thigh, were admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Bandra and reported to be out of danger, a police spokesperson told media persons.

Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria rushed to the spot to have a first-hand assessment of the situation.

The Vakola police station registered a case in both the matters and handed it over to the Crime Branch.
