Several social activists and politicians, mainly from the Left, here on Tuesday protested to seek 50 percent reservation for women in parliament.

The protestors said though the Women Reservation Bill seeking 33 percent reservation was pending in parliament, they felt there should be 50 percent reservation for women according to population ratio.

CPI-M MP M.B. Rajesh said: "We will fight for 50 percent reservation for women in parliament."

Congress leader Sharmishtha Mukherjee said her party has supported women's rights.

"The women reservation bill has already been passed in the Rajya Sabha and BJP has majority in the Lok Sabha. Why haven't they cleared it?" she asked.

CPI(M) leader P.K. Shrimati said neither the BJP nor the Congress were serious about pushing the Women Reservation Bill.
