Vatican City, Sep 12 (IANS/EFE) Pope Francis has appointed US Jesuit Robert Geisinger as promoter of justice for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, where he will investigate a clergymen charged with sexual abuse of children and other crimes.
Geisinger, who was a general prosecutor at Jesuit headquarters in Rome, replaces Robert Oliver, who has been appointed by the pontiff as secretary to the Vatican Commission for the Safeguarding of Minors.
The investigations are being carried out under the authority of an edict issued by the late Pope John Paul II, Sacramentorum Sanctitatis, which details the most egregious cases of sexual abuse of minors by members of the clergy.
