Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Tuesday announced Kotha Prabhakar Reddy as its candidate for by-elections to Medak parliamentary constituency.
TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, whose resignation caused the vacancy, finalized businessman Prabhakar Reddy's name after consultation with senior leaders.
Prabhakar Reddy, who owns a major transport company, was preferred over other aspirants including G. Deviprasad, chairman of Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers Association (TNGO).
The chief minister, in a statement said Deviprasad's services will be utilized by nominating him to the state legislative council.
The by-elections to Medak Lok Sabha seat is scheduled on Sep 13.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to announce its candidate while Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has decided to support its ally. The Congress party has also not finalized its candidate.
The seat fell vacant following resignation of the TRS chief, who was elected both from Medak Lok Sabha and Gajwel assembly seats in the simultaneous elections held in April. He retained Gajwel seat as TRS swept to power and he became the first chief minister of the newly-created state.
