As Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founder Arvind Kejriwal Sunday edged past Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the New Delhi assembly constituency, Congress workers performed prayers outside her residence for victory.
"We pray for a win in the Delhi elections, which will be Sheila Dikshit's gift to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on her birthday tomorrow (Monday)," said a Congress worker performing a 'havan' outside the Dikshit's 3, Moti Lal Nehru Marg residence.
Some hopeful workers were also holding boxes of sweets to distribute in case of good results.
The Congress seemed to be headed for a rout in Delhi with the BJP seemingly on the winning track, but it was debutant AAP that has put up a spectacular show in the battle for the 70-member assembly.
Dikshit trailed in the New Delhi constituency with 2,041 votes against 5,674 votes of Kejriwal around 10.30 a.m., election officials said. The BJP's Vijendra Gupta was third with 1,669 votes.
