Ridiculing the ruling Trinamool Congress' claims of having ushered in massive development in West Bengal during its six years in office, the Congress' state unit on Saturday demanded the government come up with statistics and facts to substantiate its assertions.
"Those talking of having brought in development, must give figures, statistics. Just like (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi, who is making a big show of his three years at the helm, the Trinamool is also making big claims about its three years in office. Both are misleading the people," said state Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
He also attacked the Banerjee government for spending lakhs of rupees on advertisements at a time when people in the state did not have the means to have two square meals a day and also lacked the wherewithal to earn their living.
Leading a Congress rally from Subodh Mallick square to the Gandhi statue in the Maidan area, Chowdhury said the people in the state knew "the kind of development they have got under the Trinamool".
"There are no industries. There is only loot, rape and murder. Entire Bengal in very bad state. People just want to get rid of this regime," he said.
Chowdhury alleged that the people have been robbed of their democratic rights.

"People have been denied their right to take part in elections. A few days back we saw the police voting for the ruling party. If police give bogus votes, then one can easily understand the state of affairs in the state".
"Under the Trinamool, democracy in Bengal is suffering from cancer," he said.
