President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday condoled the death of eminent musician Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan.
"I am sad to learn about the passing away of your father Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan," Mukherjee said in a message to the deceased musician's daughter Pammi Khan.
"He left an indelible mark in the world of classical music and was known for his deep resonant voice, ability to retain the purity of a Raag and innumerable compositions which he created over the decades under the pseudonym 'RasanPiya'," the President said.
"In his death, the nation has lost a doyen of Indian classical music."
An eminent vocalist, Rashid Khan was India's oldest performing musician. He was honoured with numerous awards, including Padma Bhushan, for his services to Indian classical music.
