President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday greeted El Salvador on its Independence Day on Tuesday.
In a message to President Salvador Sanchez Ceren, Mukherjee said: "It gives me great pleasure to convey warm greetings and felicitations to you and to the friendly people of El Salvador on the occasion of your Independence Day."
"India and El Salvador have a tradition of close friendship and cooperation which has been enhanced and strengthened in recent years," the president said.
"I avail this opportunity to convey to Your Excellency, my best wishes for your personal well-being and the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly people of El Salvador," the president added.
Republic of El Salvador shares its Independence Day with four other central American countries -- Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Honduras -- all of which got their independence from Spain on September 15, 1821.
