President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday extended his greetings to the people of Tunisia on their National Day.
In a message to Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, Mukherjee said: "I admire the significant progress made by the government and leadership of Tunisia in the transition towards an enduring democracy. Relations between our two countries are close and friendly."
He also appreciated Tunisian foreign minister's participation in the 3rd India - Africa Forum Summit in October 2015 and his interaction with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at Manama in Bahrain during the first India-Arab Ministerial meet on January 24, 2016.
"I am confident that these bonds of friendship and cooperation will be further strengthened and diversified in the coming years to the mutual benefit of our two countries. I take this opportunity to extend my best wishes for the progress and prosperity of the people of Tunisia," the president said.
The national day of the north African nation is celebrated on March 20. The country achieved independence from France in 1956 and became a republic in 1957.
