A three-member fact-finding team of the Press Council of India (PCI) will visit Jammu and Kashmir to assess "the media scenario" in the backdrop of the recent killing of "Rising Kashmir" Editor Shujaat Bukhari, an official statement said.
Also, PCI Chairman Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad will meet Governor N.N. Vohra.
The team will be visiting the state from July 1-5 to make a "thorough study" into the present state of the Press and hold discussions with the family of Bukhari, media and authorities.
"A three-member sub-committee comprising of Press Council's members, Pravat Kumar Dash, Ashok Upadhyay and Sushma Yadav will assess the media scenario in the state," the statement said.
It said the Council also condemns BJP MLA Chaudhary Lal Singh for threatening journalists and said such statements, if made at public platforms, undermine the freedom of press.
