Disaster management should not only involve relief operation, rescue, rehabilitation and reconstruction but also try and prevent the disaster, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said on Monday.
"We need to form a policy based on the ground situation. The world is becoming vulnerable day-by-day because of the way we are progressing and the way we are moving about, we are bound to face the eventuality," Rijiju said addressing a national seminar on "Exploring Social Sciences Tools in Teaching Disaster Research" here.
He said disaster management should not only involve relief operation, rescue, rehabilitation, reconstruction, but also strike the root cause of it and prevent the disaster. "That is where the research should be precise."
The minister appealed to the private sector to take part in disaster management.
"The country has understood how to deal with disaster management and disaster preparedness and we have to integrate the same with the research," he added.
