Jammu and Kashmir Police Thursday ordered an inquiry into a senior police officer allegedly having his shoe-laces tied by an orderly.

State Director General of Police (DGP) K. Rajendra Kumar told IANS that he has ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident.

"Yes, I have ordered an inquiry into the incident. We will wait for the report," the DGP said.

A huge media controversy erupted Wednesday when some photographs purportedly posted on a social networking site by the son of Jammu-Kathua range DIG Shakeel Baig went viral.

One of the photographs showed a person in civil dress tying the shoe-laces of the officer. Another showed a person with a rifle hanging from his shoulder acting as a golf caddy for the officer's son.

Tony Baig, the son of the officer, later said in a statement the pictures had been "misinterpreted".

He said the person shown tying the shoe-laces of his father was a salesman who had come to check the fitting of the officer's new shoes, and not an orderly deputed with the officer.

Tony Baig also said the man with the rifle was not acting as his caddy during a golf match.
