Several social organisations took to the streets Friday demonstrating against Noida Authority's chief engineer Yadav Singh, from whose house hundred of crores in ill-gotten wealth, diamonds and gold were recovered last week.

The protesters attempted to submit a memorandum to officials at the Noida Authority office but were prevented from doing so. They clashed with the police and the Authority's security personnel there.

Alleging that Yadav Singh was just the pivot in the multi-crore rupee scandals in the Authority, the protesters sought his arrest and suspension.

They also demanded the union government's intervention in the matter, saying they were certain that the Samajwadi Party (SP) government in Uttar Pradesh would not act against the corrupt engineer.

Yadav Singh's residence in Noida was raided a week ago, leading to the recovery of diamonds worth Rs. 100 crore, several kgs of gold ornaments, Rs. 10 crore in cash and luxury cars.

Several multi-crore rupee tenders issued and approved by Yadav Singh have now come under the Income Tax department's scrutiny. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also begun a probe into the matter.

Since the state government has not acted against Yadav Singh, neither any probe has been ordered nor has he been suspended.
