Director Anand Singh says "Purwanchal Gangwar" -- on an Uttar Pradesh-based gangster -- is a film completely different from Anurag Kashyap's "Gangs Of Wasseypur".
"It is a story derived from a true event, and it is based on a golden era of gangsters in Uttar Pradesh. 'Purwanchal Gangwar' is completely different from ;Gangs of Wasseypur'. Both the films are poles apart," Singh told IANS.
"This film is based on a time period which is 30 years before now. The story revolves around the gangsters and criminals from Purwanchal area in Uttar Pradesh," he added.
Kashyap's critically acclaimed commercial two-part film "Gangs Of Wasseypur" was also based on gangsters.
Of "Purwanchal Gangwar", Singh said: "The Indian audience has always enjoyed watching films with a gangster's backdrop. We are trying our best to bring the gangster's story with a commercial aspect. Since it's based on gangsters, the film will also have a political touch to it."
Produced by Ganesh Dutt Mishra and Bulbul Yadav under the banner G.D.M. Production and Mahendra Bhulana Production, the film has music by Dhananjay Mishra.
