The organisers of World Cup 2022 in Qatar announced on Wednesday they have decided to include the Airbnb service in the accommodation plan for fans attending the global event, with the aim of expanding available places.

Qatari residents will have the option to accommodate fans in their homes for prices ranging between 18 to 500 euros (about $20-$566) for a luxury apartment in one of the most exclusive areas of the country, The Pearl, reports Efe.

"We are looking at Airbnb as an opportunity. It's a current trend," said Hasan al-Thawadi, general secretary of the organising committee for overseeing the tournament, on Wednesday.

Airbnb, a service that allows users to rent rooms and private homes, is very popular with low-cost travellers.

In addition to this option, Qatar will also offer the classic hotel stay and more original ones, like camping in the desert or spending a few days on a cruise.

World Cup 2022 will be the first to be organised in the Middle East and will be held in winter rather than in summer, due to high temperatures in Qatar.
