Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi Monday took over additional charge as governor of Uttar Pradesh.
He was administered the oath of office by Allahabad High Court Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud at Raj Bhavan in presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, his cabinet colleagues and other dignitaries.
Qureshi was given additional charge of the state after B.L. Joshi quit as governor last week following an "advisory" by the union home ministry.
The 78-year-old Joshi, who was UP governor for five years, was earlier given a warm send off from Lucknow. He was given a guard of honour at the Raj Bhavan after which he left for the Rajasthan, his home state, officials said.
Before leaving the state capital, he met his well-wishers, social activists and officials and wished them well. Calling UP a land of immense potential, he hoped that the state will be a front ranking state in the coming years.
