A day after standing in a queue at a bank, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday appealed to his party workers and the youth of the nation to help people standing in queues at banks and ATMs due to the demonetisation move.

"It is my appeal to all the Congress workers and the youth that they should help people in queues outside banks, especially senior citizens and the ones finding it difficult to fill the form," Gandhi said in a video tweeted by INC India Twitter handle.

"People are facing a very difficult time. The entire country -- including women, labourers, farmers -- is queued outside bank branches."

"They need our help. We must stand for them. Wherever you see queues and find people suffering, give them water and help them in filling the form," Gandhi said.

After the government demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on Tuesday night, the Congress leader had himself joined a queue at a bank on Friday to get the demonetised currency notes exchanged.
