Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday reached out to home buyers here to discuss concerns about the Real Estate Regulation Authority Bill which he says has "loopholes".

Gandhi, who has been aggressively attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government over the land ordinance and farmers' issues, likened the problems of the middle class buyers to what the farmers would face if the ordinance was passed by parliament.

"This issue is very similar to the issue that I have been raising with regard to the land acquisition issue. It is just a different section of society," Gandhi told the media here after the meeting.

"They have been committed certain things and they have not got it. And as citizens when they have been committed certain things they have certain rights. We also talked about the bill."

Gandhi gave a patient hearing to the home buyers and assured full support, said Abhay Upadhyay, on behalf of around 2,500 home buyers in and around Kolkata.

"We requested Rahul Gandhi that the Congress leadership should visit these sites to understand where we stand. He assured us that Bengal Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will visit the sites," said Upadhyay.

"Since the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority is involved in this we wanted this issue to be raised in the state assembly to which he agreed."

The home buyers also demanded an interaction with the Congress representative in the RERA select committee.

"We asked him to let us meet the party member in the RERA select committee. He has agreed and we will be meeting the member on June 8," said Upadhyay.
