Amid efforts by Congress to seek support of Patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel ahead of Gujarat assembly elections, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will visit the state on Wednesday and address a series of corner meetings in Bharuch and Surat districts.
The visit comes two days after Hardik Patel had said that his organisation Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) was agreeable to explore constitutional solutions for its demand of quotas for the Patidar community.
Hardik Patel had earlier given an ultimatum to the Congress to come clear on reservations for his community under the OBC category by November 3.
Patel, who met state Congress leaders Bharatsinh Solanki, Siddharth Patel and Arjun Modhwadia in Ahmedabad, said on Monday that he was "neither against the Congress nor in its favour but am against the BJP's arrogant and autocratic attitude against the Patidars".
Congress is keen to get support of Patel as part of its efforts to forge a wide social coalition in Gujarat for the assembly polls to be held in December.
