While seeking public suggestions to maintain a healthy balance sheet, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu Tuesday cited lack of resources to upgrade services to meet the growing aspirations of the passengers.
"There definitely exist constraints of resources which are counterbalanced by the growing aspirations and rising expectations of the people at large. I am fully cognizant of this," the minister said in a statement.
"This is the most urgent item on my agenda and I will spare no efforts in putting all our combined might for the Railways to become a veritable engine of growth. For accomplishing this mammoth task, I count on the cooperation of all my 13 lakh colleagues of Indian Railways".
The minister invited public suggestions on ways to increase revenue, and at the same time reduce overall expenditure, including fuel costs.
The minister also appreciated the public suggestions sought earlier on the budget related proposals.
Under its outreach program, the railways have emphasised on the need for increasing passenger participation by seeking suggestions on key issues like revenue and cost reduction.
In addition to suggestion, the railways are also connecting with the passengers through its social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
