Rain in the national capital on Saturday brought the mercury down by nine degrees Celsius with the maximum temperature recorded at 29.6 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average.

Delhi on Saturday received 23.6 mm rainfall in Palam area, while Safdarjung saw 2.6 mm, Ayanagar saw 4.4 mm and the Ridge area 2 mm, recorded between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m.

Sunday is expected to be rainy as well, said the Met Office. The minimum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius.

"Sunday is expected to be generally cloudy with light rain or drizzle in most parts of the city," an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The national capital had been sizzling for the last few days with Friday's maximum temperature recorded at 38 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 29 degrees Celsius.

The rainfall on Saturday, however, also caused water-logging in different parts of the city, leading to traffic snarls. The situation started getting back to normal by the evening.

People, however, complained of traffic congestion as many traffic lights were not working.

Complaints regarding slow traffic were received from Dwarka Mor, Mahipalpur towards Vasant Kunj, IIT-Delhi intersection, near Pitampura Metro Station and Model Town.
