Rain kept its date with Delhi Wednesday, even as the sultry weather and traffic jams gave people in the capital a hard time.
The national capital recorded 1.6 mm rainfall from 8.30 a.m. Wednesday, to 5.30 p.m.. This was a day after 70.1 mm of rainfall was recorded Tuesday, the highest this season so far, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The metropolis had been witnessing almost a dry spell since June 17, which was attributed to a "weak monsoon" caused by low atmospheric pressure, according to IMD.
The maximum temperature Wednesday was recorded at 35.1 degrees Celsius, average for this time of year.
Humidity touched a maximum of 98 percent.
The minimum temperature early Wednesday was 22.8 degrees Celsius, four notches below average.
Similar weather is expected Thursday, with IMD forecasting rainfall and thunderstorm in parts of the city.
Maximum and minimum temperatures ares expected to be around 35 and 24 degrees Celsius.
The national capital, meanwhile, also witnessed some traffic woes Wednesday as it rained in some parts of the city. Streets were flooded in several parts, and fallen trees narrowed roads and caused traffic jams.
Mathura Road, which connects Delhi to satellite town Faridabad, faced a heavy traffic jam as a tree had fallen. Several spots on the arterial ring road, meanwhile, witnessed flooding, forcing traffic to slow down.
People complained of the weather-induced traffic trouble. "The rain is just causing even more commuting troubles. And it's not like the weather has improved. It's sultry, hot, and really no relief at all," Shradha Shree, a student, said.
