Rain washed out the third day's play of the India-South Africa second Test match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Monday.

The umpires decided that no action was possible for the second day in a row as not a single ball could be bowled in a steady drizzle that continued to pour since it began early on Monday.

Forecast for the fourth day's action on Tuesday wasn't encouraging either.

The third day's play was scheduled to begin 15 minutes earlier at 9.15 a.m. (local time) after the second day's play was called off without a ball being bowled due to rain.

The play was called off at 11.30 a.m. on Monday.

India, at 80 for no loss, are trailing South Africa by 134 runs at the end of Day one with openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan batting on 28 and 45 respectively.

Earlier, India bowled South Africa out for 214 runs in the first innings.
