Rajasthan, Bihar win at women's sub-junior nationals

Rajasthan and Bihar registered contrasting victories on the third day of the sixth Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship (B Division) here on Thursday.

Rajasthan encountered a tough fight from Gujarat in a Pool B encounter before prevailing 7-5.

Maya Kumawat (ninth, 22nd, 15th minutes) notched up a hattrick while Pooja Meena (12th, 55th) got a brace. Pushpa Gameti (65th) and Manisha Meena (67th) scored once each.

For Gujarat, Sanya Noronha (26th, 58th, 70th) got a hattrick with Prachi Patel (18th) and Shweta Jatav (63rd) also finding themselves on the scoresheet.

The match started on an attacking note with the Rajasthan pushing hard from the start and taking an early lead. Rajasthan continued to strike regularly and took a 4-2 lead by half-time.

 

The second half started with Rajasthan again in the attacking mode and continued to dominate their opponents.

Bihar on the other hand, had an easy day in office as they thrashed Puducherry 25-0 in Pool D. In a rather one-sided affair, Bihar started off by scoring in the seventh minute through Kajal Lakra and never looked back. Bihar were leading 13-0 at the break.

The third match of the day, Manipur and Uttarakhand were locked in a 3-3 draw. Shileima Khaidem (53rd, 61st) struck twice while Rojee Ningombam got the other goal for Manipur. Swati Kumari (23rd, 28th) and Anjali Sharan sounded the boards for Uttarakhand.
