The Rajasthan government on Tuesday decided to amend the Rajasthan Bovine Animal Act of 1995 to make it more effective while ensuring that law violators could be arrested under it.
State parliamentary minister Rajendra Singh Rathore said the act earlier provided for prohibition of illegal transportation or migration of bovine animals like cow, calves etc. for slaughtering.
"We have decided to amend the Rajasthan Bovine Animal (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act-1995... This Act had no provision for seizure of vehicles used for illegal export of animals," he said.
The decision was taken during a state cabinet meet presided over Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
"We have decided to amend the Rajasthan Bovine Animal (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act-1995 by inserting a new Section 6(A) into it," the minister said.
"There was no provision of arrest of the person committing such crime in the Act, now we are incorporating another amendment by inserting a new Section 12(A) in the act to make it more effective so that the people committing a crime under this act could be arrested," he added.
