The government Tuesday appointed economic affairs secretary Rajiv Mehrishi as finance secretary.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved that Mehrishi, a 1978 batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, may be designated as finance secretary, a ministry of personnel statement said here.
Last month, Mehrishi was appointed secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs in place of Arvind Mayaram, who has been shifted to the minority affairs ministry.
Mehrishi is the seniormost secretary among the four officers heading the departments of expenditure, revenue, financial services and disinvestment under the finance ministry.
As per norms, the seniormost secretary in the finance ministry is appointed the finance secretary.
