Rammohan Rao, former principal information officer, dies

Former Principal Information Officer I.Rammohan Rao died on Saturday at a city hospital, his family said.

Rao, 83, was admitted to the Medanta Hospital with renal ailments.

"He breathed his last at 3:45 pm," his daughter Smita Prakash told IANS.

His funeral will be held on Monday at the Lodhi Road crematorium.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu said Rammohan Rao's death was a huge loss.

"Shocked to learn about the demise of Sri Ram Mohan Rao Fmr PIO, PIB . A visionary in Govt communication, huge loss for IIS service. RIP," Naidu said in a tweet.

Frank Noronha, Director General of Press Information Bureau, also paid his tributes.

"I.Rammohan Rao, former PIO #PIB passes away. He was a legend and an inspiration to so many of us. Rest in peace, sir," Noronha tweeted.
