Jharkahand batted themselves into a sound position by making 364 in their first innings against Karnataka who were 123 for one in reply at stumps on the second day of their Group A Ranji Trophy league match here Friday.
Resuming at their overnight total of 214 for five, Jharkhand were boosted by a fine knock of 85 (113b, 14x4) by skipper Shahbaz Nadeem who complemented Saurabh Tiwary's 77 (195b, 6x4, 2x6) to help visitors put up a challenging score.
Pacer Sreenath Arvind and left-arm spinner K.P. Appanna came away with four wickets apiece for the hosts.
In reply, Karnataka were off the blocks in quick time as openers Mayank Agarwal (63 batting, 93b, 8x4, 1x6) and K.L. Rahul (33) put on 61 runs, Agarwal then found an able partner in Kunal Kapoor (27 batting) as the duo added a further 62 runs for the second wicket by close of play.
