A multi-volume documentation project of Rashtrapati Bhavan in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts was launched Tuesday to document its history and architecture.

"Under the instructions of President Pranab Mukherjee, steps have been initiated to preserve the rich cultural, historical and social legacy of Rashtrapati Bhavan," said a statement from the president's office.

The project will document various facets of the presidential palace, including its architecture, archaeological significance, furniture, paintings and other artefacts, flora and fauna, the President's Bodyguard and Beating Retreat and the presidential retreats at Mashobra and Hyderabad.
