New European football champions Real Madrid's right back Dani Carvajal will miss Euro 2016 due to an injury that he sustained in the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
Real Madrid won the final 5-3 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time. An injured Carvajal had to be substitued midway in the match.
Carvajal underwent a medical examination on Monday, and the medical report published by the club said the player "has been diagnosed with a grade 2 injury to the right hip and his recovery will continue to be assessed".
The player left the pitch in tears in the second half of last Saturday's match in Milan.
Carvajal was set to join the Spanish national team camp next Saturday to prepare for Euro 2016 and his absence represents a blow to defending champions Spain.
