San Juan, May 21 (IANS/EFE) Puerto Rican reggaeton star Yomo was unhurt in a shootout that occurred Monday on a busy highway in San Juan in which a woman who was traveling with the singer was wounded multiple times, police said.

Authorities said that the 32-year-old singer, whose real name is Jose Alberto Torres Abreu, was in an automobile with several other people when unknown gunmen opened fire on the vehicle near the old Oso Blanco jail.

Amarys Ortiz Morales, 22, was wounded by the gunfire but is expected to survive.

Yomo and other reggaeton singers were returning from a performance at Logan's to collect funds to pay the funeral expenses of the son of music producer O'Neill.

Yomo launched his career with the album "Sangre Nueva", produced by Naldo, in which nine reggaeton singers participated with established rappers such as Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Wisin and Yandel and Zion.
