Anil Ambani-led Reliance Infrastructure Ltd has emerged as the lowest bidder for developing the national highway project in Tamil Nadu, sources said on Thursday.

According to people in the know, Reliance Infrastructure was the lowest bidder for the National Highway NH-45C for four-laning of about 66-km stretch between Vikkravandi to Pinalur-Sethiyahopu section in Tamil Nadu.

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project has to be completed in 24 months' time. The project is under Government's flagship National Highway Development Programme (NHDP) and is funded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Other bidders for the project included L&T, IL&FS and Punj Lloyd, sources said.

The Reliance Infrastructure had revamped its strategy to refocus on EPC business. The infrastructure major has been focusing on projects in power, roads, railways, defence and ports.

The company currently operates eleven road projects with total length of 1,000 km on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.
