The Election Commission Wednesday announced that repolling in a polling station in Salem parliamentary constituency would be held Thursday.

In a statement issued here, the chief electoral officer said repoll was ordered in polling station no. 254 of Edappadi assembly segment.

The repoll was ordered as the electronic voting machine displayed the message "Unknown Mode" and as such the result recorded in the machine cannot be retrieved during the counting of votes.

Balloting will be held between 7 a.m and 6 p.m.

Those who did not vote April 24 can also vote, provided their names are in the electoral roll of the polling station.

Meanwhile, the DMK objected to the repoll and termed the action of the returning officer arbitrary, unjustifiable and impracticable.

The party also demanded an investigation into the issue and the failure of the returning officer to consult the candidates on the repoll decision.
