Resident doctors at Safdarjung Hospital here went on strike on Thursday to protest against the alleged assault upon one of their colleagues by a patient the previous day.
The strike led to delay in emergency services in the hospital.
"It all started after a woman patient assaulted a resident doctor on Wednesday evening while undergoing treatment. Alleging that she was not being properly treated, the patient indulged in verbal argument with her initially and later assaulted the doctor," said Rajmohan Singh, a senior resident doctor at the hospital.
The incident happened in the gynaecology ward of the hospital.
Concerned about the security of the doctors, a delegation of doctors on Thursday sought an appointment with senior officials at the Union Health Ministry.
