The Congress on Wednesday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response on alleged involvement of BJP leader Juhi Chowdhury in a child trafficking racket in West Bengal, as well as surfacing of names of senior party leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya and Roopa Ganguly in it.

"Glaringly shameful is the latest news reflecting arrest of BJP leader Juhi Chowdhury in a child trafficking racket. She has now told the police that she was advised to escape to Nepal by an MP of BJP. Who is this BJP MP?" asked Congress leader Manpreet Singh Badal.

"Chandana Chakraborty, the arrested owner of the Jalpaiguri orphanage, publicly stated that Chowdhury had sought assistance for her from BJP Rajya Sabha member Roopa Ganguly and BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya for necessary clearances from the government for the facility.

"These allegations are indeed shocking, disgusting and utterly shameful, reflecting a deep rooted malaise in the BJP," he added.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chowdhury, arrested for her alleged connection to a child trafficking racket in West Bengal, was on Wednesday sent to 12 days CID custody, a senior CID official said.

"Modi must also tell the nation how and why the names of Kailash Vijayvargiya and Roopa Ganguly's name surfaced in the child trafficking racket in West Bengal," said Badal.

Congress also questioned Modi's silence as BJP office bearers in Madhya Pradesh were arrested for allegedly running a spy racket, hand in glove with Pakistan's ISI, to spy on the Indian Army.
