Unidentified gunmen Thursday shot dead a retired police sub-inspector in Ghaziabad, police said.
The incident occurred around 5.30 p.m. in Pratap Vihar area, when P.D. Sharma was on his evening walk.
Two motorcycle-riding assailants came near Sharma and fired three shots at him. Two bullets hit him in the chest while the third hit him in the back.
Police said they received a phone call about the incident. They rushed to the spot and took the injured man to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Sharma's son told police that about a month ago, some unidentified assailants shot at him. He said Thursday's attack on his father was related to the earlier incident.
A case has been registered and a hunt is on for the attacker, said Superintendent of Police Shivhari Meena.

In another incident, unidentified gunmen Wednesday night tried to rob the car of a bank manager, but on failing to do so, shot at him in Ghaziabad, police said.
The incident occurred in the Judge Colony in Vaishali.
Police said Safiullah Khan, branch manager of the Standard Chartered Bank at ITO in Delhi, was returning to his residence from office.
Around 10.30 p.m. he stopped his car at a shop, when two motorcycle-riding robbers armed with pistols tried to snatch his car keys from him.
Khan resisted the attempt, and one of the robbers fired at him and fled the spot. The bullet hit Khan in his jaw.
People present near the shop called police, who took him to a hospital where doctors said his condition was critical.
