France's Reunion Island is exploring possibilities of sharing its expertise in the field of renewable energy with Tamil Nadu, said a senior official of the Indian Ocean isle.

"We have good presence in the renewable energy field. We want to develop the sector in a big manner. We discussed the issue of exchange of expertise with Tamil Nadu chief minister," Didier Robert, president of the Regional Council of La Reunion, told reporters here Thursday.

According to him, the island has a good presence in the solar energy.

A 70-member delegation from Reunion Island (population 800,000 and six hours by flight from here) is here to explore growth opportunities in the fields of cultural, tourism and industry specific links.

According to Robert, the island in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Mauritius, has strong links with Tamil Nadu as there is a large presence of Tamil diaspora there.

The Reunion Island's airline Air Austral connects the island and Chennai twice a week.

According to officials, the air route has opened up opportunities for partnerships Tamil Nadu and the Reunion Island.
