The Election Commission will ensure "rigorous enforcement" of law and order in the sixth and concluding phase of the West Bengal assembly polls, an official said on Friday.
"Regarding the security situation in the last phase, the Commission has said enforcement of law and order has to be strong as it was in the previous phases," additional chief electoral officer Dibyendu Sarkar said here after a videoconference of state election machinery and observers with Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi.
While 53 constituencies spread across the districts of South 24 Parganas, Kolkata and Hooghly go to the polls on Saturday for the fifth phase, polling in 25 constituencies in Cooch Behar and East Midnapore districts will held on May 5 for the sixth and final phase.
