Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge Wednesday said that the railways intends to invite private companies in setting up of landscaped 'green curtains' along major stations.
Presenting the interim rail budget for the next fiscal in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament, the minister said a pilot project for creating 'green curtains' has been started at Agra and Jaipur stations.
"Once the pilot projects succeed, railways intend to invite corporate entities to participate in this programme at other stations through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives," Kharge said in his maiden rail budget speech.
On other green initiatives, the minster added that the railway energy management company has become functional and is setting up wind and solar power plants for meeting the networks' energy requirements.
