At least nine people were killed in a road accident involving a minibus and a truck in eastern Kenya's Embu county Thursday, Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) said.
Three other passengers sustained serious injuries and have been taken to the local hospital, it said.
Police said the minibus was heading to Nairobi when it collided head-on with a lorry heading towards Meru town in Kiangima, Embu county.
"We have launched investigations to establish the cause of the accident, but preliminary reports indicate the driver may have been speeding," Xinhua quoted a police officer as saying.
The incident occurred just hours after four people died in yet another accident in Machakos county, also in eastern Kenya.
