Robber who stole Rs 15 lakh, Gypsy arrested

A wanted criminal has been arrested for looting Rs 15 lakh and a Gypsy vehicle from a Maruti showroom here in March, police said on Saturday.

Akash Tomar, Superintendent of Police, City, in a press conference said during extensive checking of vehicles on Friday night near Rajnagar Extension, police nabbed a suspect.

Based on his confession, police recovered Rs 97,000 in cash, a pistol, two live cartridges and a Gypsy vehicle.

The person, during questioning, revealed his identity as Shahnawaz, a resident of Muzaffarnagar. While screening his criminal record, "he was found involved in over a dozen cases of heinous nature".

 

Shahnawaz, along with 7-8 unidentified armed accomplices looted over Rs 15 lakh in cash and a Gypsy car from the Maruti showroom - Regent Enterprises on March 13. The Maruti showroom is owned by the kin of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala.

According to police, Bhairav Ghosh, the Maruti showroom manager, lodged a complaint, based on which the police was looking into the case, "which has been worked out".

The criminals held the security guards hostage at gun-point and fled the spot along with the cash box containing Rs 15 lakh in the company's Gypsy car.

"Shahnawaz's accomplices are still at large. I expect the police to bring them to book soon," said SP City Akash Tomar.
